Olympus E-PL2 Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera Review
The new Olympus E-PL2 by Olympus may not be an all new E-P series camera with new advancements, but let me just say that I like to call it an “improvement” to the E-PL1. The E-PL2 looks nicer and is more sleek than the box like E-PL1. It also looks more like a camera and less like a toy.

the Olympus EPL2 comes equipped with an on-board flash that dramatically pops-up on a flick of the switch on the rear of the camera, but there is no electronic viewfinder built-in. A hotshoe on the top combined with a rear interface means you can add the Olympus VF-2 electronic viewfinder, but at around £200, it’s quite a price to pay for this luxury on top of a camera that already costs a pretty penny. As expected, the Olympus 14-42mm lens is indeed very small, even taking 37mm filters, an unusual size. The lens is also very good. This is a high quality optic and will not disappoint.
The E-PL2 body measures 115 x 73 x 42mm and without a lens attached or battery fitted weighs 317 grams. Pop the battery in and add the 17mm f2.8 pancake prime and the weight comes up to 432g. To put that into context, Canon's high end PowerShot G12 compact weighs 401g, albeit featuring a built-in 5x zoom. Another comparison worth making is with the Panasonic Lumix GF2 which is not only a little smaller, but lighter, weighing only 265g without the battery or a lens attached. So overall the E-Pl2 is a great addition to the Olympus m4/3 line. It takes the same great quality photos as the E-Pl1 but does it with a bit more style and finesse. It feels much nicer in my hand than the E-Pl1 and loses much of its “boxy” feel. It’s sexy to look at and it comes in four colors. The white looks sweet, the red looks flashy, the silver is classic and the black is sexy and stealthy.
